Product Description

BIOCIDE BQ is a highly efficient algaecide and broad spectrum biocide. It is a non-foaming product ideally suited for use in cooling waters, swimming pools and decorative water features to control algae and assist in general microbial control.

Suitable for

  • Cooling Water Systems
  • Swimming Pools
  • Fountains and decorative water features

How to use

Cooling Tower

The dosage of Biocide BQ required is dependent on the severity of the problem to be tackled and is normally in the range of 20-200ml/m3 of system volume. A dosage rate of 100ml/m3 is typical.

Biocide BQ should be dosed to maintain the kill concentration for a minimum contact time of 4 hours.

In order to prevent the development of resistant microbial strains Biocide BQ should normally be used in conjunction with another biocide such as Biocide ITA and the two biocides should be dosed alternately. A typical dosing regime would be to dose the system with 100ml of Biocide BQ / 1000 litres of system volume as a shot dose and then dose the system with a shot dose of the second biocide at the next scheduled dosage before reverting to Biocide BQ for the third dosage etc. The required frequency of biocide dosage will depend on the retention time of the cooling system and tendency of the system to become contaminated with nutrients that will encourage microbial growth. A typical biocide dosing frequency for systems with a long retention time would be once / week but for systems which change their water more frequently and have a short retention time then the  frequency of dosages will need to be increased (typically twice per week).

The general microbial activity (TVC) in the system can be monitored using microbial dipslides. Good control is indicated by a general bacteria level (TVC) of less than 104 cfu/ml. It is recommended that a dipslide test is taken weekly and the system is tested specifically for legionella bacteria at least once per quarter see our Legionella Water Analysis.

Swimming Pools

Initial dosage required is 3 – 50ml/m3 of pool volume after which the pool should be cleaned by vacuuming and backwashing the filter.

Once control is established a dosage of 5-10ml/m3 of pool volume should be applied every 3 days.

Decorative water features

Initial dosage required is typically 100ml/m3 of system volume. Repeat as required every few days to establish algal control. Some physical cleaning may be required to remove algal deposits.

Once control is established a dosage of 25 – 50/m3 of system volume should be applied once or twice per week.

Pool cleans

For Spa Pool disinfections our Activ-Ox Spa Clean product offers enhances Legionella and biofilm control using our unique chlorine dioxide chemistry.
