Legionella control

Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria which can thrive in the warm water conditions often found in hospital water systems. Not only can legionella put your patients and staff at risk but it can also damage the hospital image.

Feedwater offers a range of services designed to help the hospital maintenance team protect their patients and collogues against Legionella and comply with legislation. These include:

  • Water analysis and Legionella testing
  • Water hygiene and disinfection services
  • Legionella awareness training
  • Legionella risk assessment services
  • Activ-Ox® chlorine dioxide
  • Record keeping log books and training
  • Technical support and guidance

Activ-Ox® Chlorine Dioxide Water Disinfection

Complex water systems can present a real struggle to keep under control and free from troublesome bacteria, particularly legionella. Hospitals especially find this an issue having large water storage tanks and long complicated pipework. Traditional drinking disinfectants like chlorine are ineffective because they cannot penetrate the biofilms which form on the pipe surfaces. Activ-Ox® is the answer!

Activ-Ox is Feedwater’ patented chlorine dioxide system which is simple and safe to use and able to control all manner of problematic bacteria including legionella.

Many leading hotels, hospitals and care homes have installed Activ-Ox dosing systems on their incoming water supply as part of their legionella control strategy.

In addition to products to treat your drinking, hot and cold domestic water, we also supply special Activ-Ox products for disinfecting and cleaning shower fittings and for biofilm control in spas.

Closed System Services

Many hospitals will have closed systems as useful ways of heating or cooling for building service applications. These closed systems contain water which changes very little, bleed and evaporation tends to be minimal therefore the intention is that the water is retained for an indefinite period of time.

This water needs to be treated to prevent the build-up of corrosion and foulant products, without treatment heat transfer can be impeded reducing efficiency of the systems, blockages can happen and control valves can become inoperable. Heating systems can become scaled up; chilled water systems can become choked with Pseudomonas slime-forming bacteria. A poorly treated closed circuit water system will be wasting your money long before it starts to leak.

Feedwater can provide you with an effective water treatment chemicals to inhibit such issues as corrosion, scale and microbial issues ensuring long life, efficiency and safety. Our products all come backed up by on-site service visits with the benefit of expert advice and consulting.

Boiler Water Services

It’s in our name, Feedwater is a boiler water treatment specialist if your hospital facilities management is looking for an expert to partner with for the protection and treatment of your boilers you couldn’t put yourself in better hands. Our knowledge, experience, products and chemicals will keep your boilers operating safely and efficiently.

Hospital Water Softeners

Hard water can be a real problem for hospitals as it greatly increases your operating costs.  The housekeeping and maintenance teams have to work much harder removing stains and soap scums from bathroom fittings, laundry costs are much higher and kitchen equipment and water heaters become choked with limescale, shortening their life and increasing your energy costs. Washing is more difficult as more detergent is needed and costs increase in general.

A Feedwater water softener is the answer, removing the hardness salts from your water supply using a simple, safe, reliable process. We custom build each softener to match your requirements and our responsive team of service engineers provide on-site maintenance to ensure each unit provides years of cost effective and reliable performance.

Hardness in water is caused by naturally occurring salts of calcium and magnesium which are found to varying degrees in all water sources. The higher the concentration of these salts, the “harder” the water is.

Hard water gets its name from the fact that these calcium and magnesium salts react with soap and detergent forming an insoluble scum and making it “hard” to make a lather. Hard water not only makes washing with soap and detergent more difficult and costly – but it also forms limescale, a rock-like deposit when the water is heated. This limescale reduces heat transfer and makes heat exchange equipment more costly to operate, and in extreme cases such as a steam boiler can lead to catastrophic failure.

Hospital pool treatment

If your hospital or healthcare facility contains a water therapy pool the treatment of that pool is of uttermost importance due to the increased vulnerability of recovering patients. Warm aerated bodies of water are especially at risk of microbial growth and the agitation of water by jets is a cause of spray the main cause of Legionella and Legionnaires’ disease transfer.

Disinfection by chlorine is all well and good but build up of biofilm in the system requires something a lot stronger, we recommend frequent super disinfections a using chlorine dioxide spa cleaning kit, chlorine dioxide is highly effective at breaking up and removing biofilm something other disinfectants may not be able to do.

Our microbiological laboratory can also test the water of your pool for bacteria such as Legionella, E. Coli and Pseudomonas. To simplify this we have created a pool analysis package which can be ordered online, a sample kit is set out to fill and return free post.

Swimming Pool / Spa Microbial Water Analysis

£78.00£876.00 exc. VAT

Swimming Pools and Spas can cause outbreaks of infection such as eye and ear infection and gastroenteritis. Spas have also been shown to cause serious, potentially fatal Legionnaires’ disease. For these reasons swimming pool analysis is required for public pools and recommended by Feedwater for private pools.

Parameters included for Swimming Pool and Spa testing analysis are set out in the product description below.

Spa pools require an additional Legionella water test every quarter as well as risk assessments and a comprehensive control program. Speak to us about risk assessments and pool treatments.

You can now order a 12 month supply of sample kits for your Pool or Spa at an additional discount.
12 Month Pool analysis includes 12 x Hygiene Analysis
12 Month Spa analysis includes 8 x Hygiene Analysis & 4 x Hygiene & Legionella (to take quarterly).
