Legionella Control & Legionnaires’ Disease Prevention with Chlorine Dioxide
Chlorine Dioxide has been shown to be extremely effective in the control of legionella bacteria and the prevention of Legionnaires’ Disease and Feedwater’ patented Activ-ox® system is the easiest and safest way to treat drinking, domestic and cooling water with chlorine dioxide.
Legionnaires’ Disease is a potentially fatal form of pneumonia caused by Legionella bacteria which live in biofilms in water systems. Many conventional biocides are ineffective in controlling legionella and are unable to penetrate or disperse biofilms. Chlorine Dioxide, or ClO2 for short, has been shown to be extremely effective at penetrating and killing biofilms and the Legionella bacteria that they harbour.
The Journal of Applied Microbiology reports that:
An investigation carried out by BSRIA into the treatment of hot and cold water systems using Chlorine Dioxide it was shown to be more effective than the traditional temperature regime in controlling both biofilms and legionella bacteria in model domestic water systems.
