Activ-Ox Legionella Control Where Temperature Control is Difficult
With the increase in extreme weather events due to Global Warming & Climate Change, the UK is in for hotter summer heatwaves. Temperatures in the 30s and even lower 40s are going to become more of the norm which presents an issue for businesses where office domestic systems are monitored to control Legionella. Warming incoming mains water and greater ambient heat around the system will make tap temperature control increasingly difficult where temperatures need to be maintained at below 20oC at the cold outlets.
In parts of the system where control below 20oC is not possible there is an increased risk of Legionella and biofilm growing which risks exposing employees to the bacteria from the spray of tap outlets and showers. This makes outbreaks of the potentially fatal form of pneumonia, Legionnaire’s disease of greater risk to businesses where control is not being achieved.
Chemical Control
The recommended remediation in systems where temperature control is failing is to supplement with a form of chemical control.
An investigation carried out by BSRIA into the treatment of hot and cold water systems using Chlorine Dioxide it was shown to be more effective than the traditional temperature regime in controlling both biofilms and legionella bacteria in model domestic water systems. (BSRIA Technical Note TN 2/98).
Activ-Ox is the Ideal way to Control your Domestic System
Activ-Ox® follows a unique process in generating ClO2 which enables an incredibly high instantaneous yield of 95% chlorine dioxide . This is achieved with the use of low hazard chemicals and simple design to improve efficiency and reduce the risk and complexity of installations.
